A Pastel Pink Moment.

A Pastel Pink Moment.

This is a long exposure of a pastel pink moment during Cherry Blossom season at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. People were wandering, enjoying the Cherry Blossoms at the height of their beauty on April 16, 2023. As I spoke about in the previous post about Cherry Blossom season, or Sakura in Japanese, it is about the ephemeral nature of life. Sakura is a time to reflect on the fleeting beauty of Cherry Blossom buds. This photograph appears to be moving or changing, which captures the Wabi-sabi principle of impermanence.

I decided to post this photograph of this pastel pink moment because I love it and I loved that afternoon.

I decided to post this photograph of this pastel pink moment because I love it and I loved that afternoon. There was not a bit of negativity in the air. It was cool and breezy. The air was sweet. Little ones were staring at the Cherry Blossoms with wide eyes. People were gaily frolicking through the meadows or twirling in their pink skirts, honoring the Cherry Blossoms. It was, dare I say, like heaven. People are so busy thinking about the afterlife, but perhaps heaven is a place right here on Earth. Heaven is something that requires nurturing and maintenance.

Places like the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and Prospect Park are places where people can find peace amidst chaos.

Places like the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and Prospect Park are places where people can find peace amidst chaos. They are places where we can renew and refuel. These spaces are crucial to our well-being, particularly for us city-dwellers. There is a reason that all cultures have their own idea of heaven. Heaven is a place we can’t remember, but feel. It is a representation of when we were at one with nature. Heaven is a simulacrum of our earliest home, the earth and trees. It is a subconscious reminder of a time when we humans lived in harmony with nature. Our ancestors probably had it better than us in many respects. They definitely had better teeth and bigger skulls. But we have anesthetic, so there’s that.

Thank you for sharing this pastel pink moment with me.
